Somnath Mookherjee receives Excellence in Teaching Award
Dr. Somnath Mookherjee, associate professor (General Internal Medicine) is the 2023 recipient of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Excellence in Teaching Award.
This award recognizes outstanding teaching prowess and mentoring to other hospitalists, residents, medical students, or other healthcare professionals.
Mookherjee's clinical practice is in perioperative medicine and internal medicine consultation. His scholarly work focuses on optimizing clinical teaching. In recent years, he has published research on peer feedback of teaching, physical examination education, and education in quality improvement and patient safety.
He is co-editor of the “Handbook of Clinical Teaching,” and is a co-author of a manual on “Writing Case Reports – A Practical Guide from Conception through Publication.”
Mookherjee directs the Faculty Development Program and the Academic Hospitalist Fellowship for the UW Division of General Internal Medicine. He is a Deputy Editor for the Journal of Hospital Medicine.
He completed his training in internal medicine at the University of Washington, and completed an academic hospital medicine fellowship and the Teaching Scholars Program at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He returned to the University of Washington in 2012 to rejoin the Division of General Internal Medicine.
