Residential Segregation and Health Outcomes: The Impact on the Hispanic/Latino Population

Dr. Rudy Rodriguez, professor (Nephrology) and vice chair, will give the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Director’s Seminar “Residential Segregation and Health Outcomes: The Impact on the Hispanic/Latino Population” on Oct. 3, 11am PST.

The seminar will explore the history of residential segregation, address the impact of residential segregation on social determinants of health, explore the health outcomes associated with residential segregation, and understand the dissimilarity index.

The NIMHD Director’s Seminar Series highlights prominent researchers who are advancing the science of minority health and health disparities.

Rudolph A. Rodriguez, a board-certified internist and nephrologist, is the Director of the Hospital & Specialty Medicine Service Line at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and a Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington. As a clinician scholar, his academic career focused on nephrology fellowship education along with scholarly work on issues related to vulnerable populations.

His academic interests include health disparities, kidney disease among underserved populations, and increasing diversity in academic medicine.

Dr. Rodriguez serves as a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine Nephrology Board. He is the Chair of the Veteran Affairs Nephrology Field Advisory Board. He also served on the American Society of Nephrology Training Program Director’s Executive Committee.
