Nancy Davidson new head of the Division of Medical Oncology
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nancy Davidson as the new head of the Division of Medical Oncology, effective December 1, 2016.
Davidson, a world authority on breast cancer, is currently the director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, Hillman Professor of Oncology, Associate Vice Chancellor for Cancer Research, and a Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh.
Davidson received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and her undergraduate degree in molecular biology from Wellesley College. Prior to joining the U Pitt faculty, she served as the Breast Cancer Research Professor of Oncology and founding director of the Breast Cancer Program at Johns Hopkins.
As head of medical oncology at UW, Davidson will replace interim head Dr. Marc Stewart, who is also a clinical researcher at Fred Hutch and medical director of SCCA. Previously the division was led by Dr. Fred Appelbaum for 15 years. Davidson will also assume the roles currently held by Appelbaum of executive director of Fred Hutch/UW Cancer Consortium and as president and executive director of SCCA. Appelbaum will remain executive vice president and deputy director of the Hutch.
In her new role, Davidson will serve as a bridge builder across treatment, clinical and translational cancer research at Fred Hutch, UW Medicine, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Seattle Children’s to work toward 'a world without cancer.' This is a personal mission for Davidson, who lost her sister to cancer in 2011.
“I believe that she will be an outstanding addition to our faculty and leader of our Oncology Division and I am looking forward to working with her.”
