Dr. Ellen Schur, professor (General Internal Medicine) has named the inaugural leader of the UW Medicine Women’s Health Research Program, effective Sept. 21.

This novel initiative, backed by philanthropic investment, will help connect investigators, accelerate discovery, improve care, and position UW as a leader in women’s health research.

One of her first steps in this role will be to bring together the many faculty from across the school whose research focuses on, or is related to, women’s health. In addition, she will orchestrate a program of pilot grants to support and grow Women’s Health Research at UW.

Schur directs the UW Nutrition and Obesity Research Center (NORC) and leads the Brain, Body and Appetite Research Collaborative. Her research focuses on the biological drivers of eating behavior, obesity, and weight management.

She also serves as clinical research director of the UW Medicine Diabetes Institute and founded the nonsurgical weight loss program at UW Medicine’s Weight Loss Management Center.
