Dr. T. Eoin West, professor (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine) has received the 2023 Harborview Medical Center Pilot Award for “Harborview Inhalation Injury Biorepository and Inter-Disciplinary Research Program.”

This project will study patients admitted to the UW Medicine Regional Burn Center at Harborview Medical Center with inhalation injury.

Inhalation injury is incompletely understood yet is a major contributor to death in burn patients.

Combining sub-specialty burn and pulmonary expertise at Harborview, this project proposes to establish a translational research platform to expand scientific understanding of the pathophysiology and outcomes in burn patients with inhalation injury.

Harborview is the only Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center and American Burn Association-verified burn center in Washington State.

Co-investigators on this project are Drs. Taylor Coston, fellow (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine) and Barclay Stewart (Surgery).

The Harborview Pilot Project Award Program promotes knowledge generation, collaboration, and expertise to benefit the mission populations served by Harborview Medical Center, including the most vulnerable residents of King County.
