Anthony Chen has been a Program Operations Specialist in the Division of Medical Genetics since 2016.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Washington State University and is currently pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Finance and International Business at WSU. He will graduate in the fall of 2021.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to get to know and work with successful and world-renowned scientists,” he says. “And I enjoy learning and taking on new challenges.”

As one of only three administrative staff in the division, Chen covers multiple functions, including human resources, payroll, hiring, financial support (procurement, reconciliation, records management) and coordinating the weekly Medical Genetics Seminar and other endowed/memorial lectures.

“Anthony is the epitome of customer service,” said Division Administrator Beverly Berg-Rood.

“His is the first face that you see as you walk into the Medical Genetics Admin offices. He always has a smile on his face and will greet you the minute you arrive with, ‘can I help you?’

He sets the tone for the office. He is knowledgeable, thoughtful, kind and helpful and it is a pleasure to have him as a part of Medical Genetics Admin Staff.”

Prior to joining Medical Genetics, he worked in a variety of different medical settings including Clinic Care Coordinator for International Community Health Services, working with a team to provide health care and education to immigrant and refugee students.

Chen moved to Seattle from Guangzhou, China in 2006. He became a homeowner at the age of 22 and worked two jobs to put himself through school.

“School has taken up a lot of my personal time outside of work,” he says, “but I enjoy traveling when I have the chance.”
