Staff spotlight: Tram Phan
Tram began her career at UW in 2016, a journey she describes as “truly rewarding.” Prior to joining the Department of Medicine, she worked in the UW Medical Center Department of Social Work and UW Medicine Accounting.
“Over the years, I have grown significantly both professionally and personally,” Tram said. “I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles and gain experience with multiple UW financial systems throughout my time here.”
She transitioned into her current role in the Division of Nephrology in 2023. As a grants manager, she collaborates with the grants team and partners with principal investigators to support their research. “I genuinely appreciate the collaborative work culture and the wonderful colleagues I have the pleasure of working with,” she said.
Coming into the role with a background more focused on finance, Tram said the move into grants has been a new and exciting experience, and she is grateful to grow in this area. “Being part of this work has been both rewarding and inspiring, and I have learned so much from everyone here.”
She has recently been entrusted with more complex grants administration responsibilities; a task she describes as both challenging and rewarding.
Just a few years into her role, Tram’s contributions to the research administration team and division are recognized as “above and beyond.”
“In the two years I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tram, she has exemplified excellence as a grants manager,” said Marisa Benich, administrator for the Division of Nephrology.
“She approaches every task with initiative, professionalism, and a strong commitment to continuous learning. Faculty consistently highlight how much they appreciate working with her, and she regularly goes above and beyond to support research administration within the division. Tram’s collaborative approach and positive presence make her an invaluable member of our team.”
Tram said she is grateful for the support and encouragement she has received from her supervisor and team in supporting her professional development.
Outside of work, Tram loves spending time with her husband and daughters. They enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and especially love outdoor activities like hiking and fishing.
Tram is also an avid rose grower and enjoys tending to her garden whenever she can.
