Staff Spotlight: Likkit Pocinwong
Background
Born as a true PNWer at Northwest hospital, Likkit grew up in Edmonds, WA and has fond memories of being outdoors basically from dawn to dusk. When higher education called he stayed true to his local roots and attended the University of Washington.
Education
When asked about his education, Likkit likes to say that he learned a lot about himself while attending the UW. In fact he picked up his interest in web development during his senior year where one of projects was to “build a web page.”
A couple decades later and his career in web development continues working for the Department of Medicine communications team.
Extra Life fundraising
Likkit has tremendous pride in the fundraising he is involved with, an annual event called Extra Life which raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (locally our Seattle Children’s Hospital).
While technically fundraising for this event runs all year long, every November there is a “Game Day” weekend which involves the culmination of the event - participants pledge to play their choice of games (tabletop, card, videogames) for 24 hours straight. The group of friends and acquaintances that Likkit participates with are called The Cascadian Gamers.
The team as a whole has raised over $620,000 since 2013.
This year Likkit has raised $3600 so far and has raised over $44,000 for Seattle Children’s Hospital in the 10 years he has done Extra Life. While he says it is getting more difficult to stay up for the 24 hour marathon every year, he will continue to do it because SCH means a lot to his family - specifically the care they received at the Autism Center.
