Staff spotlight: March Laden
Education and experience
March grew up on the Gulf Coast of Alabama and earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Earlier in her career, she taught high school English in Alabama and worked for a defense contractor before transitioning into medical education. Since then, she has coordinated undergraduate and graduate medical education programs across several areas, including clerkship, residency, fellowship, and research training.
Before coming to the University of Washington in 2020, March spent nearly a decade in medical education program administration at the University of South Alabama.
Program administration
After joining UW, March first served as a program coordinator and later as a program operations specialist in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. In June 2025, she joined the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Nutrition in her current role as fellowship administrator.
March manages administrative operations for eight ACGME fellows and approximately 15 research fellows across the division. Her work includes scheduling, accreditation support, trainee appointments, and research training administration.
She also helps oversee two NIH T32 training grants and coordinates appointments for research fellows in T32 and other research training positions. Among her many responsibilities, March is especially proud of her work preparing for ACGME site visits and accreditation reviews.
Through thoughtful coordination and operational processes, March enjoys helping build the behind-the-scenes structure that allows faculty and trainees to focus on education and patient care.
“March has been an incredible addition to our team over the past year,” said Tricia Kane-Yi, associate administrator for the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology & Nutrition.
“She approaches her work with professionalism, initiative, and genuine care for both the people and projects she supports. Her contributions have been invaluable, and she has quickly become an integral part of our division.”
UW community
Although she grew up in the South, March quickly felt at home at UW because of the campus’s natural beauty and strong sense of community.
March shared, "One of my favorite things about working at UW is simply being on campus. It is a beautiful place to work, and I appreciate being part of an institution that values progressive initiatives.”

She also enjoys being part of UW’s Graduate Medical Education community and values the many opportunities for professional development, including expanding her work in NIH training grant administration.
“It has been rewarding to learn new systems while supporting trainees and faculty in practical, concrete ways,” March said.
She especially appreciates the Department of Medicine’s support network and the opportunity to contribute to programs that help trainees move through important stages of their careers.
Interests and hobbies
March loves to travel, whether it’s regular trips to visit family in Alabama and the beaches of the Florida Panhandle or exploring West Coast cities and camping in national parks.
She recently began fostering dogs, which she describes as “a fun and slightly chaotic new chapter.”
Outside of work, she enjoys biking, dancing, and spending time with her son, who is a physics undergraduate at UW. She and her son especially enjoy visiting museums and attending performances at the Seattle Symphony.
