Anneliese Schleyer named Chief Medical Officer and Vice President for Medical Affairs

Dr. Anneliese Schleyer, professor (General Internal Medicine) has been appointed chief medical officer for UW Medicine and vice president for medical affairs at the University of Washington, effective March 1, 2024. She has been serving in these interim roles since July 2022.

“As interim chief medical officer, Anneliese has fostered the integration of our clinical, education and research programs,” says Dellit. “Her commitment to advancing care models of the future focused on delivering high-quality care through the lens of equity will continue to be a focus of her leadership role.”

As chief medical officer, Schleyer oversees clinical practice transformation, strategic planning for clinician workforce and models of clinical care, clinical risk management activities and partners with other senior leadership to lead equitable patient safety and quality improvement plans.

During her 33-year career at UW Medicine, Schleyer has been engaged in quality improvement and patient safety. She is nationally recognized for her work in areas of thrombosis and anticoagulation safety, frontline engagement and academic promotion.

Before taking the interim role, Schleyer served as the associate chief medical officer for UW Medicine and led the coordination and integration of patient safety and quality improvement activities across UW Medicine.
