Drs. T. Eoin West, professor and Sina Gharib, professor (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine) were awarded an R21 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of a novel plasma proteomic signature for melioidosis (Burkholderia pseudomallei infection) in hospitalized patients with infection in rural Thailand and northern Australia.

Melioidosis is a bacterial infection that occurs in tropical regions around the world and causes significant mortality. The objective of this project is to test a new diagnostic for melioidosis. The knowledge gained from this proposal can help to reduce the burden of melioidosis and ultimately improve public health.
