Dr. Chris Longenecker, associate professor (Cardiology) has been appointed holder of the Werner E. and Joan Samson Endowed Faculty Professorship in Cardiology.

Longenecker is the inaugural director of the new, interdisciplinary Global Cardiovascular Health Program in the Department of Global Health and the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine. This program supports grant- and contract-funded translational research and trains health care researchers in the area of Global Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Care. It is on its way to becoming a premier research and educational program to improve global cardiovascular health.

The Werner E. and Joan Samson Endowed Faculty Professorship’s intent aligns with Dr. Longnecker's passion for primary medicine and his track record of excellence in research, education, and community outreach. This endowment not only recognizes his achievements but also provides him with the support and resources necessary to further his impactful work in medical education and healthcare equity.
