Michael Linenberger receives Francis S. Morrison, MD Memorial Lectureship Award

Dr. Michael Linenberger, professor emeritus (Hematology and Oncology) was selected to present the Francis S. Morrison, MD Memorial Lecture at the 2025 American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) annual meeting in Montreal this month.

This memorial lectureship award recognizes individuals whose contributions to the field of apheresis medicine have made, or are expected to make, a significant and lasting impact.

 
 
 

During his active academic career, Linenberger held the Robert and Phyllis Henigson Endowed Chair in Hematology. He was the Medical Director of Apheresis and Cellular Therapy at Fred Hutch Cancer Center from 2001 – 2022. He pursued clinical research on ECP in pediatric patients, donor safety and the effective procurement of blood and marrow cells for their subsequent use in transplantation and immunotherapeutics.

He served on many committees and subcommittees for ASFA, including many cycles on the Subcommittee/Working Group and Special Issue for Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines. He was on the Board of Directors of ASFA from 2015 – 2021. He chaired the Choosing Wisely Subcommittee and co-chaired ASFA’s Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, which subsequently became a full committee.

During his career, he maintained a busy outpatient practice focusing on classical hematology. As Program Director for the UW Hematology/Oncology fellowship from 2011 – 2022 he was deeply involved in teaching, mentoring and career development.
