Established in 2020, the Department of Medicine Diversity Academic Development Scholar Awards (DADSA) were developed to promote and foster the transition of meritorious trainees to the roles of junior faculty and principal investigator.

“These awards are intended to fill a funding gap from the T-32/F-award to career development awards and will help us retain outstanding fellows and junior faculty interested in academic careers,” said Dr. W. Conrad Liles, associate chair for research.

One of these awards, the WRF-DADSA award, is supported by generous funding from the Washington Research Foundation (WRF).

“These awards also demonstrate significant departmental and institutional commitment to awardees at NIH study sections and other funding organizations,” said Department Chair Dr. Barbara Jung.

Demonstrating our strong commitment to departmental DEI efforts, the inaugural awards were presented to five recipients:

Drs. Crystal Brown, Chase Cannon, Erik Kimble, Helen Stankiewicz Karita, and Kennedy Ukadike.
