Tim Dellit receives Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility Paul Beeson Award

Congratulations to Dr. Timothy Dellit, professor (Allergy and Infectious Diseases), CEO of UW Medicine, executive vice president for medical affairs, and Paul G. Ramsey Endowed Dean of the UW School of Medicine, who is the 2026 recipient of the Paul Beeson Award from the Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility (WPSR).

This is the organization’s highest honor, recognizing individuals whose leadership has advanced health, justice, and peace in the spirit of Dr. Paul Beeson.

The Paul Beeson Award celebrates leaders who understand that health extends far beyond the walls of the clinic or hospital. Throughout his distinguished career, Beeson exemplified the belief that physicians have both the opportunity and the responsibility to speak out on the social, environmental, and political conditions that shape the health of our communities. His legacy continues to inspire WPSR's work to prevent nuclear war, confront the health impacts of climate change, and advance health equity through evidence-based advocacy.

Dellit embodies these same values. His career has been defined by a commitment to improving the health of individuals and communities through principled leadership, scientific integrity, and a steadfast dedication to public service. Whether advancing patient safety, strengthening public health, fostering collaboration across institutions, or championing policies that promote healthier communities, he has demonstrated that effective leadership is grounded in compassion, partnership, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.

At a time when science, public health, and trust in our institutions face significant challenges, Dellit's leadership serves as a powerful reminder that physicians can be effective advocates not only for individual patients, but for the health of society as a whole. His work reflects the core values that have guided WPSR for decades: using the voice and credibility of health professionals to address the root causes of threats to human health and to promote a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.

He will be honored at the WPSR Health Justice Benefit on Sept. 19.
