Dr. Taylor Coston, senior fellow (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine) has received a K23 Career Development Award from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute for his project, “NAD+ metabolism in pneumonia.”
Pneumonia causes more than 3 million deaths annually. Antibiotics are the mainstay of treatment, but emerging resistance to many antibiotics necessitates identification of alternative therapies.
This project seeks to understand how abnormalities in an important biological pathway, NAD+ metabolism, contribute to immune responses and outcomes in severe pneumonia.
