Street Medicine Training Program
We’re excited to announce the new Internal Medicine Residency Street Medicine Training Program (SMTP), a residency-wide program aiming to prepare graduates to meet the health and life needs of people experiencing homelessness.
The program, led by Dr. Jocelyn James, associate professor (General Internal Medicine) includes foundational didactic training to build knowledge and skills to care for people experiencing homelessness among all IM residents.
The program also creates a new Street Medicine Pathway, led by pathway director Dr. Aynsley Duncan, clinical assistant professor (General Internal Medicine) for those desiring more extensive training and leadership preparation.
It also doubles the available rotations in homeless health from two to four.
The Street Medicine Training Program includes mentorship and support for residents to conduct research, QI, policy or advocacy projects related to the health and wellness of people experiencing homelessness.
The program will also host Street Medicine Community Conversations to bring together the many faculty at UW and in our community who work to improve the health of individuals experiencing homelessness.
