The Outstanding Staff Awards aim to recognize and celebrate exceptional staff members who are dedicated to supporting our organization’s mission of teaching, healing, discovery, and diversity, and upholding core values.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients: Leila Armas-Valencia, fellowship administrator (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine) and Andréa Campbell, residency program administrator.

Leila Armas-Valencia

From her nomination packet:

"Leila is knowledgeable, skilled, and committed to excellence in all of her endeavors. As a program administrator, she has sought input from other programs on their approach to activities like recruitment with an eye towards continuous program improvement.

In addition to her many activities as a program administrator, she is committed to lifelong learning, taking courses from the University of Washington on social justice.

She also serves as a Bias Navigator and a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Champion for the Department of Medicine."

Andréa Campbell

From her nomination packet:

"Andréa embodies the spirit of passion and innovation—not only in the work she does, but in the way she uplifts and inspires those around her.

She brings joy, creativity, and wholehearted engagement to every aspect of her role, creating an environment where others feel empowered to be bold, confident, and collaborative. Her presence is not just appreciated—it is essential.

Andréa is critical to the success of our program; her counsel, wisdom, grace, and compassion make an immeasurable difference in our daily work. Personally, my job would be infinitely harder without her steady guidance and unwavering support.

She is a true force for good in our community, and we are all better for having her as a colleague and leader."
