2024 Fialkow Award
Congratulations to Dr. Eric Morrell, assistant professor (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine), who is the 2024 recipient of the Fialkow Award.
The Fialkow Scholar Award honors the late UW Dean of Medicine and Chair of Medicine Dr. Philip Fialkow and his wife, the late Helen Fialkow, and recognizes the outstanding achievements of junior faculty in medicine in research, teaching, clinical work, and academic citizenship.
Dr. Morrell will formally receive the award and present at Medicine Grand Rounds in the fall.
Eric D. Morrell, M.A., M.D., is an assistant professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine and co-director of the UW Lung Transplant Biorepository.
His research focuses on understanding the alveolar innate immune mechanisms that contribute to acute injury, repair, and clinical outcomes. His work integrates a broad range of molecular and epidemiologic approaches.
Specifically, his work has identified novel alveolar macrophage phenotypes that are associated with key clinical outcomes using transcriptional and single-cell methods.
In addition to his translational research in acute respiratory distress syndrome, Dr. Morrell’s clinical focus is critical care and lung transplant medicine. He co-directs the University of Washington’s Lung Transplant Biorepository, serves on the Early Career Group at the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, and is a site PI for several multi-center observational and interventional studies in lung transplant, ARDS, and COVID-19.
