The Chair of Medicine Scholars Awards, initiated in 2013, are awarded annually to meritorious University of Washington Department of Medicine trainees to foster their transition to the roles of physician-scientist and principal investigator. Each award offers $50K per year for two years in salary support to facilitate transition to appointment as a junior faculty member.

Congratulations to the 2024 award recipients, Drs. Eleanor (Elly) Bhatraju, assistant professor (General Internal Medicine) and Simon Hsu, assistant professor (Nephrology).

 

Elenore Bhatraju

Elenore Bhatraju MD MPH

Dr. Bhatraju earned her medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine and her master's in public health from the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. Her research and clinical focus is on addiction medicine and serves as medical director of the Inpatient Addiction Medicine Consult Service.

Simon Hsu

Simon Hsu MD, MS

Dr. Hsu earned his medical degree from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and his master of science from the University of California San Diego. His clinical interests are in chronic kidney disease and electrolyte disturbances. His research focuses on vitamin D deficiency and mineral and bone disorders in kidney disease.
