Dr. Kathryn Treit, clinical associate professor (Nephrology) comes to the UW after 8 years as the medical director of the Home Dialysis Program at the Northwest Kidney Centers.

Treit graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine with high honors and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of California San Francisco. She returned to UW a two-year nephrology fellowship followed by one-year advanced training in advanced dialysis.

Upon completion of her training, she joined the Polyclinic where she has been a passionate advocate for increasing patient access to home dialysis. She has also long been engaged in caring for minoritized and marginalized populations in King County.

Treit brings her deep passion and long experience to her new role as medical director of the Outpatient Dialysis program.

The UW Outpatient Dialysis Program provides outpatient dialysis care to patients in King, Snohomish, and Pierce counties, and includes care for patients undergoing in-center hemodialysis or home dialysis (peritoneal or home hemodialysis).

The program has led to the establishment of the first-ever community-based kidney supportive care program at the Northwest Kidney Centers to deliver palliative care to patients undergoing long-term dialysis.

“Dr. Treit is an outstanding clinician, a compassionate provider, strong advocate for access to home dialysis, and committed to advancing care of socially marginalized communities," said Dr. Rajnish Mehrotra, professor and head, Division of Nephrology.

"We are thrilled to welcome her back to UW.”
