Staff Spotlight: Fatima Ranjbaran

Fatima Ranjbaran is the research manager of the Cardiology Clinical Trials Unit (CTU).

“The goal of the CTU is to be at the forefront of scientific inquiry and to promote clinical research of value,” she says. “Our investigators address the prevention and treatment of heart and vascular diseases through new technologies. We strive to help by providing a sound research infrastructure. We hope that our work will translate into life-saving treatments for the public.”

Ranjbaran, who is Iranian/Canadian, received her B.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC and her B.S. in Nursing from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. She has been working in a variety of clinical research positions since 2007, part of the CTU team since 2013 and CTU research manager since 2016. She is co-author on five publications.

“If dedication to clinical research could have only one face, it would certainly be Fatima,” said Dr. Kelley Branch, CTU Director. “She is exemplary in every aspect of her work. Fatima is really the core of the CTU and the best of the best at the University of Washington.” 

In 2017, her team was nominated for the University of Washington Distinguished Staff Award, which highlights colleagues who create a world of good through their hard work, dedication and selfless spirit.

She says her colleagues are the best part of her job.

“I believe that the Department of Medicine’s greatest assets are the people who work here. During these trying times with the COVID-19 pandemic, I have seen the very best side of people here, and I feel honored to be working alongside such colleagues.”

Outside of work she loves to spend time with her family. “I have a wonderful husband who supports me in all my endeavors and two wonderful children Daniel and Lily. I love to cook and when I get the opportunity, I love to sleep!”
