Faculty continue educating through pandemic (with appropriate precautions)

Medicine and teaching don’t stop for our faculty. With in-person gatherings risky and reduced until vaccinations are widespread, GIM has adopted online tools to continue sharing knowledge. A selection of upcoming events in 2021 featuring our faculty are listed below. While most are exclusively virtual, some allow in-person attendance with masks and appropriate distancing.

• The McCall Winter Conference is sponsored by The David A. Hindson Foundation. The Foundation was founded in 2008 to honor Dr. David Hindson’s dedication to patient care and teaching. Held virtually January 14–16, 2021, this year’s event will include Assistant Professor Andrea Christopher, Associate Professor Moe Hagman, Clinical Associate Professor Lisa Inouye, Acting Instructor Elizabeth Schackmann, and Acting Instructor Linnaea Schuttner speaking or moderating events. 
   
• January 14, 2021 brings a UW School of Nursing continuing education webinar, “The Challenge of Pain,” which will include Clinical Professor David Tauben presenting “Update on Pain – Part 1: Why is Pain Hard for Everyone” and “Update on Pain – Part 2: What Can You Do About it?” 
   
• Associate Professor Ellen Schur and her colleagues at the UW Medicine Diabetes Institute will host a one-hour research training conference. “Clinical Spotlight: Spotlight on the Clinical Research Unit” will be held on February 2 with options to attend via Zoom or in person. 
   
• Professor Bradley Anawalt will be teaching part of UW’s Continuing Medical Education course “MJ2111 Endocrinology and Diabetes Update for Primary Care.” The course takes place March 12 and 13. Dr. Anawalt will cover the topic “Low Testosterone Levels: When to Treat?” 
   
• Looking ahead to June 8–10, UW CME will offer their course “MJ2115 Updates in Hospital Medicine.” Assistant Professor Tyler Albert, Associate Professor Paul Cornia, Clinical Assistant Professor Mehraneh Khalighi, Assistant Professor Joshua Liao, Clinical Associate Professor Grady Paden, and Clinical Instructor Jeffrey Redinger will all present on varying subjects. Drs. Khalighi and Albert are the course co-chairs.
